FAQ's

Visio Floor Plans

Q. What does it cost?
A. Prices are subject per venue, there is a one off cost for developing the Visio template (floor plans) and stencil (smart shapes - furniture icons) files. You will also need to have installed the Microsoft Visio software. If you do not have the software, CADplanners can send you a quote for this. Please contact us for a quote.

Q. What are the ongoing cost?
A. There are no ongoing yearly license fees with your in-house floor plan system. The only time where additional costs may be incurred is if your venue adds additional function spaces and/or undergoes any structural changes/refurbishments that affect function space. A quote would be sent for a nominal labour fee to update your files.

Q. Do we own the files or CADplanners?
A. You own the files, CADplanners will email and/or send the files on CD and the Visio files are owned by you.

Q. What software is installed?
A. Microsoft Visio 2003 or 2007. History has shown that many clients already have Microsoft Visio as part of their Microsoft Office suite.

Q. Why would we already have Microsoft Visio?
A. Microsoft Visio is more than a space planning tool. 1.5 million users worldwide use Visio for business process diagrams, timelines, facilities management charts, resources with data, AutoCAD compatibilities, work flow 3D diagrams, team projects etc. Businesses can quickly document processes, diagram basic networks, create organization charts, schedule projects, visualize work flows, brainstorm using diagrams, and so on.
Please visit www.visio.com for more information on the software.

Q. Do I require an internet connection when creating my plans?
A. No, Visio resides on your computer, the working files also reside on your PC or server.

Q. Our IT department's concerned about security of data.
A. Data integrity is no issue, the system and files reside locally.

Q. How accurate are the floor plans?
A. We create the plans with CAD accuracy. CADplanners create the dynamic templates in dedicated CAD software. We guarantee what you see is exactly what will fit.

Q. Sometimes lighting or AV companies ask for CAD files when setting up there lighting or AV rigs.
A. The Visio drawing files can be exported as dwg or dxf format (CAD language) .

Q. I don't have time for learning new complex software.
A. The major difference between Visio & dedicated CAD software packages is the ease of use. Our clients are creating detailed floor plans with approx 30 mins training. CAD software requires hundreds of hours in training.

Q. We don't have CAD files or pdf's of our venue.
A. CADplanners can carry out on-site laser drafting and render your entire venue in CAD software, then migrate these files for Visio compatibility with dynamic integration. A separate quote would be forwarded to you for on-site laser drafting.

Q. Is Visio compatible with other Microsoft Office suite products?
A. Yes

Q. Is support available?
A. Yes. CADplanners support is lifetime. CADplanners have been in operation for over 10 years.

Q. I learnt to create plans in word or excel, why do I need CADplanners & Visio?
A. Visio is a dedicated diagramming & sophisticated drawing tool that easily creates plans with astonishing results. Visio's 'drag and drop' ability and CADplanners customisation makes creating plans that much easier.

Q. Are Visio 2003 files compatible with Visio 2007, and vice versa?
A. Yes

Q. Can I send a Visio floor plan to staff or a client?
A. Yes. If the staff member or client has the Visio software, you can email the Visio file to them. They can then open the file and make their adjustments to the plan layout if required. Otherwise, you can email the plan as a PDF document for them to view.

Q. I'm not too sure, am I creating the floor plan layouts or CADplanners?
A. You create the floor plan layouts. Ie banquet, dinner dance, theatre styles etc. CADplanners setup the templates (your functions spaces) and customise your smart shapes (furniture) that allows you to 'drag and drop' the shapes onto the plan to create accurate, to scale floor plan layouts whenever you want.

Q.What is a venue plan?
A. A venue plan is a 2D graphical representation of your function / event.
