Frequently Asked Questions

We don't have Cad files or architectural plans?

When developing a Visio floor plan solution for a client, we obtain their electronic CAD files or hardcopy architectural plans. From either of these types of files we then proceed with the developing processes to create the resultant Visio template files (the floor plans).

Commonly, a client may not have either CAD files or architectural plans available. If this is the case, CADplanners will use laser drafting equipment to recreate the spaces (onsite) in CAD format (dwg/dxf). These CAD files can then be used for the developing processes to create the Visio template file.

Another common scenario is a client may have CAD files or architectural plans, however these plans may be out of date. Using the plans the client has available as a base, CADplanners will carry out an onsite laser measure and add/update the components not shown on the original plans. This service can be used as part of the development of the Visio floor plan system or as a separate service if a client requires electronic files (CAD, dwg, dxf) of their spaces for other purposes. The resultant dwg/dxf files will be emailed and/or put on a disk for the clients own use.

Where are the templates stored?

The templates are stored on your computer(s). All floor plans and shapes reside on your PC’s/servers. This ensures you have full control over the security of the plans and their intellectual property.

The system will be setup to allow users to drag and drop customised smart shapes (for example tables, chairs, dance floors, stages, AV equipment, signage etc.) onto a 2D plan. These shapes will be created to the exact dimensions of the furniture and AV equipment your venue currently use to ensure accurate, ‘to scale’ floor plan layouts.

What are the costs?

The cost is based on the number of templates you require. Customers find the low cost of the software to be a pleasant surprise. Pricing includes customised smart shapes and stencils, training material & videos, mouse mats, CAD development & rendering, installation,  .net modules & dynamic toolbars.
You will need to have Microsoft Visio software installed. If you do not have the software, CADplanners can supply a quote.

Do I require an internet connection to use the software?

No, the software resides on your computer, the working files also reside on your PC or server.

Data integrity is no issue, the system and files reside locally.

What is the process once we go ahead?

Once our developers start splitting the Cad elements, we will then send you the pdf files so you can verify the areas. Once you send back the confirmation of the areas we will continue development along with your shape stencil.

To get the shape stencil underway, we will send a document asking you to outline the standard equipment in your venue. For example, do you use round or trestle tables? Do you have projectors?
We have over 3000 items in our equipment list for example tables, chairs, dance floors, lecterns and so on. Any items we don’t have will be measured

The location of power outlets and data outlets can often be obtained from your exisitng CAD files.

How accurate are the floor plans?

We create the plans with CAD accuracy, this is accurate to the millimetre

CADplanners create the dynamic templates in dedicated CAD software. We guarantee what you see is exactly what will fit.

What if third party contractors require our CAD files?

The Visio drawing files can be exported as .dwg or .dxf format (CAD language) .

What if I don't have time to learn new software?

The major difference between Visio & dedicated CAD software packages is the ease of use. Our clients are creating detailed floor plans with approximately thirty minutes of training. CAD software requires hundreds of hours in training.

Can I send a Visio floor plan to staff or a client?

Yes. If the staff member or client has the Visio software, you can email the Visio file to them. They can then open the file and make their adjustments to the plan layout if required. Otherwise, you can email the plan as a .pdf document for them to view.

Support & Training

Onsite Training - Throughout the year, CADplanners recommend ‘refresher’ training sessions. These training sessions can be for both existing and new users of the system.

Online training - This includes the use of the on-line training application ‘Go To Meeting’.  In brief, this allows the users to have an online, one on one training session with a CADplanners Visio trainer by viewing our screen remotely and at the same time talking to the user on the phone.

We can then ‘click a button’ and allow the user to take over the controls (mouse keyboard etc.) and we can see them use the system and correct any errors they may be making or suggest other ways to do a particular task.

Phone support - Unlimited phone support from date of signed and paid contract. Support hours are Monday to Friday 9.00am – 5.00pm EST (not including Public Holidays).
